4 Ingredient Asian Marinade

Introducing: Eastern fury

Like me, this marinade is a bit saucy. Unlike me, this marinade pulls it off.

Hello tiny group of people who read these posts, can I just say how lovely you are (probably) looking today. Hope all is well on this wet, dreary and somewhat bleak September afternoon.
Today's recipe came about due to a recent change my current living situation. Whilst I am still living in my grandparents' bungalow whilst looking for a job #winningatlife a change has occurred, albeit not very dramatic. Nan and grandad recently decided that they want to purchase a new freezer and subsequently that means we now have to eat up what can only be described an entire year's food haul over the course of the next month. Give me strength.

Eastern fury - banishes blandness, fires up flavor!
Disclaimer: May induce chili sweats and maniacal dancing.

Something we have a lot of in the freezer at the moment is fish, which is fine for me because I love fish. However, when I say we have a lot of fish, I mean we have so much fish that if we defrosted the freezer right now, we could set up a home aquarium business. Whilst all of it comes from sustainable sources (which is fantastic), a lot of the white fish (like the basa pictured above) does tend to be a bit lacking in taste, in the sense that it has none, literally no taste. It's like eating air with a slight 'sea' edge. To combat this current conundrum, I went to the kitchen cupboards to look for answers and despite the good tasting pre-packaged sauces already there, I wanted something with a little less salt and sugar. So, after dumping a few things in a bowl and mixing them up, Eastern fury was born.

Ingredients:

2 tsp reduced salt soy sauce
1 tsp honey (or other sweetener of choice)
1 tsp lemon juice
1 small dried chili pepper crushed or if you are not a fan of heat/don't enjoy having a small section of your taste buds singed away, substitute this for 1/2 tsp chili powder (heat level of your preference)

Instructions:

Mix the ingredients together...that is all.

Hooray for simplicity!

This makes enough for 1-2 people depending on how you wish to use it and of course you can always double or triple the recipe if you want to make enough Asian flare for all the family.
For a sauce so simple, its amazing how multi-functional this marinade is, which is great if you're the kind of person who is indecisive and panics when confronted with restrictive situations. I like choice, choice is good.
What do you feel like eating?
Errrm, I'm not sure.
That's OK, there's lots to choose from.
Phew, that's a relief then.
Praise be to choice!
Anyway, Feel free to use a splash of Eastern fury to soak over fish or other meats before cooking. This is sure to give any bland tasting protein source an oriental taste-punch to the face. You could also use this concoction as a dipping sauce for vegetables or sushi; drizzle it over salad as a garnish or use it to flavor anything from stir fry dishes to pot roasts. The possibilities are endless, which is great considering we have about six other packets of basa to use up. Happy eating!

Driz that shiz.
