Feed Me Seymour Friday! (Travel edition)

TGIF

It's time for another 'what I eat in a day' post and this time I did something slightly different as I recorded the day that Tasha and I were making the 5 hour long voyage from deepest darkest Devon back to mahogany twinkled Essex. Oh so Mahogany twinkle.

Now, whilst visiting the parents in the West Country, there was at no point a shortage of food related highlights.

I could have shared the black bean chocolate orange brownies I made whilst we were down there (which even my 'more old fashioned than spam' Nanny liked).

I could have shared the trio of vegan apple crumbles that mum and me whipped up. Mum + Crumble = Mumble. Ironic as she's actually quite loud.

I could have shared the fantastic three course meal of complete food porn from the parent's local pub featuring seared scallops, mustard crumb coated sea bass and marmalade brioche bread and butter pudding.

But I haven't.

Instead I have chosen to share some things packed into ugly tupperware containers that were consumed in the car park of Reading service station...

You're welcome?

Disclaimery thingumybob: This is not me telling anybody how/what to eat nor am I stating that this is an ideal way of eating. I'm not a health professional in any sense and am simply sharing this day of food because I really like watching Youtube videos on the topic and to be honest I think I'm a bit of a food perve. It's getting to be a problem actually, the other day I was convinced a papaya was winking at me.

Breakfast

As you guys may know I am currently consuming at least two breakfasts in the morning in order to get some junk in my trunk (one step away from complete white trash Alex) and you may also be aware that I usually make one of these breakfasts oat-based. Today was no exception, although whilst I kept the same components of my favorite morning carbs, I got a little creative with the presentation. Round one consisted of chocolate crumb topped pear microwave crumble!

Thought there wasn't going to be any crumble in this post eh? For shame! This breakfast isn't as poncy (word provided by my loving sister) as it looks and was actually really easy to make. The base is just chopped up pear and some homemade unsweetened apple sauce and the topping is some oat meal, whole oats, cocoa powder, xylitol (mum's trying reduced sugar baking), more apple sauce and a little coconut oil. Microwaved for about three minutes for a soft warm and almost chocolate lava like fruit pudding - this was a complete winner! I peared it (Teeee Heeeeee) with some green tea just so I could feel extra tarty. Also please enjoy the sliced pear garnish atop the crumble, it's all for you.

Part 2 of breakfast was a the result of of some war-time resourcefulness mixed with a bit of 'I don't really give a f***' attitude and it turned out not too bad. We had the base of a butternut squash leftover from a vegetarian korma made the night before which still had a considerable amount of flesh in it. Once the seeds were all scooped out it looked like a happy little orange bowl, so I cracked an egg into it, microwaved for about a minute and a half, sprinkled over some black pepper and ate it using a fork and my mouth. My mouth is quite good at eating.

Lunch

You join us on the road for lunch and as you can see we packed what can only be described as a sad salad but it did taste good. By jazzing up a bed of lettuce leaves with some chicken, sweet potato, beetroot, celery, cucumber, avocado and pepper (because pepper everything), this actually managed to satisfy my hunger demands... well nearly.

I also opted for a cashew cookie naked bar and a satsuma immediately after...

...and a small cappuccino with soy milk from Costa.

Snack

Due to the elevated caffeine levels, the remainder of the journey was spent bellowing out Disney villain songs down the M25. It turns out when it comes to music genre, I'm quite partial towards antagonistic lions. Who Knew?

Once back home in bountiful Essex, I caught up on my peanut butter needs but having some on two wholegrain rice cakes. Although I wasn't really that hungry at this point, I knew that I would need something an hour or so before working out and any excuse to eat peanut butter I'll justify.

Dinner

Slight confession, I got very hungry after lifting my little weights and ended up taking out a good chunk of dinner before I remembered to get a picture of it. Boo, hiss. Oh well, never mind, above is some salmon, mashed potato, broccoli, cauliflower, a piece of carrot (the last survivor) and some green beans. A very nice and simple meal courtesy of Nan, I am well looked after.

Snack 2

Before bed I thought I'd commit complete cardinal sin in the form of ingesting a ton of of carbs after dark, Gasp! In reality, I never worry about when I eat, its more about what I eat. This night I had a whole meal wrap with spinach, lettuce, red pepper, chick peas and Dijon mustard. Sounds weird doesn't it? Well it was, but it tasted quite nice. My body is craving the most unusual things lately and if it weren't for the lack of womb I'd wonder if I was pregnant. So far, as it stands I don't think I am but watch this space.

Also, before I go, I feel obliged mention that I woke up in the middle of the night hungry and ended up eating a double helping of Weetabix with almond milk. This hasn't happened in a while and I'm assuming /hoping it's an increase in appetite due to beginning more strength training, or maybe it's because I simply hadn't consumed a dense enough caloric intake over the course of the day, or maybe it's because I'm simply a greedy goose. Whatever the case, I'm a firm believer that if you're hungry, eat and do so until you're satisfied.

What do you eat in a day? Apparently it seems that a large part of my diet is made up of black pepper and starch... err yay?

See you next week!
